Progress 7-24-2002

Permanent link to archive for 7/24/02. Wednesday, July 24, 2002

Normally I'd do a release before committing a lot of changes, but since I'm in San Diego I can't. I know, I know...note to self: automate release process completely.

See the Updates page for many of the bug fixes I've checked in. The other thing I've checked in is externalURL support, which is strictly experimental at this point. What does this give you? Metadata for your shortcuts. That means you can now create a shortcut to an external site and define metadata for that site.

The other thing that's experimental is full-text indexing for Manila sites. If you want to try it out:

  1. Make a backup. :)
  2. Update metadata.root to get the experimental code.
  3. Click on the metaData link in your Editors Only bar.
  4. Click on the link that says Enable full-text indexing of Subject and Body.
  5. Wait while the metadata plugin automatically adds and configures these two meta types and indexes each of these fields for each of your pages
  6. Use the metaSearchForm macro to easily create a form to search your site. Something like {metaDataMacros.metaSearchForm("body, subject")} should work fine
  7. Try a search or two

For more information on the metaSearchForm macro, see here.
