Looking ahead

Permanent link to archive for 12/6/02. Friday, December 6, 2002

Things have been pretty quiet around here, but that doesn't mean that the minds behind the metadata plugin have been resting. Quite the opposite. There is a major new revision of the metadata plugin in the works. It's new. It's powerful. It's more like a metadata framework. It will knock your socks off. If you don't wear socks, you might want to put a pair on before signing up as a beta tester to avoid foot injuries.

In fact, it's so good that we'd like to make a clean break from the codebase in the current version of the metadata plugin, to avoid the ugly upgrade problems we had with version 5. And that means that we need to come up with a new namespace for the code. The current namespace is based on the term metadata. For example, you see names like

metadata.root
metadataMacros
metaDataSuite

etc. What should the new namespace be? metadata6 seems awkward (would you like to type metadata6Macros.query()?)

Here's where you come in! Submit your suggestions for a new namespace on the discussion group. The submitter of the winning entry will receive a personalized copy of the new version in person from one of the major developers*.

We're also looking for beta testers. If you're interested in becoming a beta tester, please contact David Bayly or John VanDyk.

*Winner is reponsible for travel costs. Namespaces based on current political figures not acceptable. Void where prohibited. Not valid more than 50 feet offshore.
