AddedValues Progress
David Bayly has posted a progress report on addedValues, the successor to the Metadata Plugin.
We now have a macro to display text depending on conditions of a meta value. Details are here. Since this is a new macro, you'll need to legalize it at config.mainresponder.prefs.legalMacros. Things have been pretty quiet around here, but that doesn't mean that the minds behind the metadata plugin have been resting. Quite the opposite. There is a major new revision of the metadata plugin in the works. It's new. It's powerful. It's more like a metadata framework. It will knock your socks off. If you don't wear socks, you might want to put a pair on before signing up as a beta tester to avoid foot injuries. In fact, it's so good that we'd like to make a clean break from the codebase in the current version of the metadata plugin, to avoid the ugly upgrade problems we had with version 5. And that means that we need to come up with a new namespace for the code. The current namespace is based on the term metadata. For example, you see names like
metadata.root etc. What should the new namespace be? metadata6 seems awkward (would you like to type metadata6Macros.query()?) Here's where you come in! Submit your suggestions for a new namespace on the discussion group. The submitter of the winning entry will receive a personalized copy of the new version in person from one of the major developers*. We're also looking for beta testers. If you're interested in becoming a beta tester, please contact David Bayly or John VanDyk. *Winner is reponsible for travel costs. Namespaces based on current political figures not acceptable. Void where prohibited. Not valid more than 50 feet offshore. We now have a navigator macro for generating next-previous links on pages that are ordered by a meta type. Jan Storms has announced MetaTool 0.1. MetaTool allows editing of Manila messages and their associated metadata in one Radio-outline window.
Version 5.09 of the metadata plugin is a bug-fix release. See the Updates page for details. Version 5.08 of the metadata plugin includes lots of bug fixes. See the Updates page for details. Version 5.07 of the metadata plugin is now available. The focus of this release is performance. It's a lot faster than previous versions in many ways. Bug fixes in full-text searching and gems support. As usual, for details see the Updates page. I got another 10-15% speed improvement out of the formatter by moving the possible xml compilation check out of the loop.
