Time for a progress report. The addedValues plugin, which is intended to replace the metadata plugin someday, is in very late beta. There are already interesting sites which have gone live and there are more coming on-line in the near future.

The two key things to be finished before the release of 1.0 are complete the migration tool from metadata to addedValues and the reference section of the documentation. Bug fixing is ongoing .

Highlights of addedValues.

- very fast searches. See <http://outreachitaly.com/o/en/search> for a hotel lookup in a database of about 6500 records, classified in various ways. If you are looking for a hotel in Italy, this is the way to find it.

- very fast text search. See <http://www.mus.ch:8080/infoLine1998/>, the first of 5 years of an active email digest of a German speaking Macintosh user group , which have been loaded into a Manila website and the body and subject have been indexed by addedValues. In testing we were seeing many tens of hits returned in as many ticks (1 tick = 1/60th seconds) 1998 is the smallest year with only 550 messages or so, 2003 is up to 10K messages already, the remaining years will be indexed and published as volunteer time permits.

- Dynamic navigation menus. Most navigation elements of this site <http://www.aaaenvironmental.com/> are dynamic and buitl by addedValues on the fly.

- flexible form creation as a front end. See popup window forms in <http://www.aaaenvironmental.com/> Please don't abuse them, these are live sites with real clients relying on them.

And much more. For detail see the dedicated web site at <http://www.addedValues.org/>.

The addedValues plugin is free and more beta testers would be welcome. To join the beta, go to the website and click download. from the left navigation menu.
