The Metadata Plugin is a powerful enhancement to Userland Software's Manila. It allows you to break free of Manila's limitations by:

  • Adding properties to the pages on your website
  • Adding multiple templates to your website
  • Adding subtemplates to your website
  • Showing related pages in a customizable format
  • Adding META tags to the HEAD element of your pages
  • Building automatic site indices or tables of contents
  • Indexing News Items
  • Searching your site's metadata
  • Scheduling web pages for time-delayed publication

In short, you get power without sacrificing ease of use.

For advanced Manila users and Frontier developers, the Metadata Plugin provides a framework to:

  • Create, index, and search built-in and user-defined meta types (properties) in the message table of your website using your choice of two indexing methods
  • Provide a standardized way of accessing the message table
  • Use Web Services to get at your data

The Metadata Plugin's caching architecture means that processor-intensive operations are only done once; thereafter, dynamic pages containing metadata features like indices and tables of contents are served from the cache with no slowdown. This feature also makes the plugin a good choice for Manila web hosting companies who want to provide advanced features to many users without burdening their servers.

At its core, the Metadata Plugin is built on top of the AttSearchEngine from Macrobyte Resources, a scalable search engine designed from the ground up with speed and flexibility in mind.
